Post-Treatment Care for Electrolysis Hair Removal

Electrolysis
That Works

100% Permanent
When done properly!

How it Works

This video shows how the electrologist inserts a probe into the hair follicle without penetrating the skin, applies a current to the root of the hair through the probe and then the hair is removed easily without being pulled.

Three Step Process

Electrolysis Hair Removal Works for All

A pre-packaged sterile disposable probe (which is the same diameter as the hair follicle) is inserted into the hair follicle and you shouldn't feel it. Proper insertions do not penetrate your skin when done correctly.

Current is applied to the probe and that's the only part of the treatment you should feel. The current can be adjusted to keep you comfortable.

The hair should slide out and you should never feel a pull. It should not feel as though the electrologist is pulling your hair.

Laser vs. Electrolysis

Did you know that the FDA says the laser only provides "permanent hair reduction"? According to the American Electrology Associatioin (AEA), "Laser promoters compare laser to electrolysis, although laser assisted hair removal is considered a temporary method. It has not been evaluated for long-term safety of the patient's skin and health." This newer technology may seem like a competitor, but electrolysis is the ONLY method approved by the FDA for "permanent hair removal" since 1875!

Electrolysis Hair Removal Works for All In addition, unlike laser, electrolysis can treat ingrown hair as well as ALL types of hair including blond, grey, and red hair. When you consider the risks, cost, and effectiveness of laser versus electrolysis, we're confident you will discover that electrolysis is the best choice for permanent hair removal. However, electrolysis only works when it's done correctly by a qualified, experienced electrologist, like the specialists at Mishael's.

How Long it Takes

The number of treatments and length of time to clear an area depends on the area treated; the technique and proficiency of the electrologist; the density and strength of the hair; and the method of hair removal previously used by the client. This can be discussed during the initial consultation.

Post Treatment Care

It is normal for the skin to be slightly red and swollen after electrolysis treatments. These conditions usually disappear in an hour or two but may last longer. It's important to avoid any activity that would subject the treated skin to irritating conditions while it is in the healing stage. The following post treatment care should be followed for the first 24 to 48 hours depending on the area treated.

Follow these steps for optimum healing:

  1. Keep the area clean with suitable antiseptics such as Witch-Hazel, Hydrogen Peroxide, alcohol, or soap and water.
  2. Apply ice to the treated area to reduce any swelling if necessary.
  3. If advised by your electrologist, apply an antibiotic cream to help minimize infection in the treated area.
  4. Keep your hands off the area. If any scabs appear following the treatment, apply Calamine Lotion to speed up the healing process. Do not pick them off.
  5. Do not use any abrasive scrubbing action on the treated areas.
  6. Do not visit a tanning salon or get a sunburn on the treated area for at least two days.
  7. Use only fresh make-up, purchased within the last 90 days to minimize infection.
